Storefront Repairs

This week, we’re taking a quick look at a small job for a business in our hometown, Nashville, AR. The Factory Connection felt their storefront was no longer looking its best, so they did something about it. They called us, and we came.

We rented a 45′ Genie articulating manlift from Hugg & Hall Equipment Co…

…so that we could reach the store sign to clean it:

We also replaced the rotten wood along the bottom side of the front side beam and repainted the entire beam:

A small job, but a face-lift like this can work wonders for a business!

Sometimes it’s easy to ignore the little things that need doing…but as we’ve said before, little things add up over time and may even end up damaging the integrity of your building. Don’t wait too long to call us at (870) 845-1121!

Walmart Service Counter

The Walmart store in Ashdown, AR had a problem…

That space there with the falling-down boards was supposed to be a handy counter for the employee working the customer service desk. In this state, it was not so handy, but once they got Hostetler Builders in, it was an easy fix.

First, we used toggle bolts to re-fasten the 2×4 along the back wall:

Then we re-affixed the front side metal legs to the concrete using anchor bolts:

And we finished up by putting the countertop back into its place and fastening it there, using screws and adhesive caulk:

And now it’s a handy space again!

Have you got something like this – a place that’s meant to be convenient for you, but there’s something wrong with it and instead it’s just a waste of space? You don’t have to keep on living with it. Call us at (870) 845-1121.

Exterior Wood Restoration

As anyone who lives in the South knows, exterior wood only lasts so long…but sometimes the breakdown is so gradual that we forget what our homes could look like! This week, we’re looking at the magic that happened when we replaced the exterior wood soffit, fascia, and siding on this home.

Starting out, we take a look at the old eaves, once white, now turning black and rotten:

With new LP Smartside® soffit and fascia trim installed, the eaves are good to go once again:

Another before, during, and after from the back of the house:

While most of this home is brick, some of the exterior walls were covered in old Masonite® siding…which we removed and replaced with LP Smartside® lap siding and trim:

And everywhere we installed new siding, we also painted it with Sherwin Williams® paint:

Not only did we replace the siding, soffit, and fascia, we also removed the old roof shingles and replaced them with Tamko® Heritage shingles in the Rustic Slate color:

The transformed home, beautiful and peaceful in the sun, no longer rotting away at the seams:

Do you have wood siding or trim on the exterior of your home? When was the last time you took a good look at it? Take a minute when you get home tonight and make sure that your house isn’t rotting away around your ears…and if you find that it is, you know who to call! (870) 845-1121

Exterior Updates

A lot of people deep-clean their houses in the fall, but what about the exterior? When was the last time the outside of your house got a good cleaning?

For this homeowner, we power-washed the exterior of their home and garage, including their concrete sidewalks:

But…when you clean, you often find things that need updating as well. So why not get it all done in one go?

So we also removed the storm windows from the home’s beautiful bay window, and then replaced and painted the rotten wood beneath the window:

And then the biggest and best update! This home has a lovely rooftop balcony with outdoor steps leading up to it. But…those steps were made of wood, so you know what happened within a couple of years? Mm-hm, they started getting all soft and rotten and risky to climb. This is where we come in, but instead of replacing those wooden stairs with more wooden stairs that will also rot, we did something much better!

First, we installed Trex® Elevations metal framework for the new stairs:

Step 2 was installing the Trex® Transcend decking itself, in this beautiful Spiced Rum color:

And last of all, we reinstalled the homeowner’s white vinyl railings for a stunning contrast:

And here are the completed stairs, beautiful and sturdy and safe to climb for years to come:

How is the exterior of your home looking? Does it need some love – a little cleaning, a little updating? And while we’re here, we’ve been talking about Trex® composite decking quite a bit lately – it’s beautiful, right? Do you have any questions about it? Call us at (870) 845-1121…we’d love to set up a free consultation with you!

Rustic-Modern Porch

Wooden steps work just fine if all you want is a way to get up to your door, but you know what’s better? If you wish your family spent more time out of doors, if you want a place to relax on cool evenings, if you’re longing for a space to BBQ and have your friends over, if you need somewhere your pets and toddlers can play outside without you needing to worry they’ll wander off – you know what will give you all of that? This homeowner could tell you, because they’ve got it: a beautiful, rustic-modern, gated porch.

But they didn’t always have one. They started out with these wooden steps:

This is where we came in. Step one: framing in the new porch, using Yellawood® treated lumber:

Once the porch was in place, we built the railing out of the same Yellawood® lumber. For a strong contrast, the balusters are of black aluminum:

For the roof and the gutters, we used galvanized metal, in keeping with the rustic-modern theme of the porch:

With a spring-loaded gate like this, you’d never need to worry about your dog running off and getting hit on the road…or your small child:

The porch is finished! Well-furnished and decorated by the homeowners, well-built by Hostetler Builders; doesn’t it look like a great place to spend an evening?

And, while we were there, we built a matching enclosure to protect the outdoor A/C unit and make it a more attractive sight at the same time:

Autumn is just starting to show up, bringing the kind of evenings when you want somewhere you can spend time outside. Do you have that space? If you wish you did, if you’d like to know just what it would take to get it…a call to (870) 845-1121 is all it takes to reserve your own free consultation.
