Restoring Exterior Respect

The exteriors of most buildings are pretty much open to the public eye. Especially if you live close to a road, any passerby can see just how well you take care of the outside of your house or office or shop. But if it’s a public building in town, how many more people see it?

The Howard County Fairgrounds building was starting to look a bit shabby, so they called us in to pressure-wash and repaint the entire exterior for a fresh new look, as shown in the before and after photos below:

After pressure-washing, we applied primer and two coats of Sherwin Williams paint for a lasting improvement:

Your building might not be a public space, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t looking at its exterior. Step outside and take a good look at it. Is it starting to look a bit shabby, a bit like no one cares much about it? Sometimes a new coat of paint can work wonders. From Shingles to Metal

There’s a whole debate to be had about shingles versus metal roofs. Metal is more expensive, but it also lasts so much longer that you probably are saving money in the long term. Metal roofs tend to need far less maintenance than shingle roofs, but it’s also true that if your metal roof does need repairs, you will spend more than for shingle roof repairs. Then, of course, there’s the question of which looks better; a question which only you can answer for yourself. This homeowner answered it by choosing to go from drab brown shingles on his house to a brilliant red metal roof.

Chicken Express

If you live close to Hope, AR, you may have noticed that a new Chicken Express came to town recently, just across the road from the Chevy dealershop. We were honored to work with Moser Construction, LLC in providing the building for the restaurant.

When we got there, the concrete slab was already in place:

But since a restaurant needs more than a concrete slab, it was our job to frame a building on top of it:

Next, we installed Zip System® sheathing and tape on the exterior walls:

After that, our part of the construction was done for a while and we did not return until close to the end, when it was time to install the exterior metal; McElroy® Metals Medallion-Lok in Brite Red on the towers and awnings, while for the soffits we used McElroy® Metals Marquee-Lok in Brilliant White:

The finished building:

Next time you are in Hope, drop by the Chicken Express for lunch, and while you’re there, take a moment to look at the building. It’s not only new restaurants that need framing, sheathing, and exterior metal. New houses, new shops, new buildings of all kinds need some kind of framework, and metal is a durable, low-maintenance choice for your exterior no matter what’s inside.

What new construction are you designing in your dreams? What would it take to make those dreams as real as this Chicken Express building?
