A Shop for the City

It’s not just homeowners that face the problem of having tools and equipment and vehicles that would last longer and look better if they had a place to live away from the damages of sun and rain. This past summer we had the privilege of building a new 30′ x 30′ steel-frame shop for the City of Grannis.

We started with dirtwork:

The wooden concrete forms are built:

And one beautiful concrete slab is poured:

A closer look at the concrete details:

And the completed shop, with galvanized metal on the walls and roof, from both the front and back view:

This shop comes with a 3′ walk-through door and an 8′ x 12′ roll-up door, providing easy access without compromising either the security of the building or its shelter from the elements:

A closer look at the bottom of the walk-through door and concrete sill:

And finally, a view of the spacious interior:

A simple metal building, with the space and protection to keep your equipment safe and useful for many years, not to mention the other uses it could be put to. Need a garage? Need somewhere for your kiddo’s band to practice where you don’t have to hear it? Need more storage space? Need a workshop? Need a place to host a big old party? And then there’s always the option of adding insulation, electricity, and whatever else you would like, and turning part of it into an office space or even a guest apartment.

One Man’s Castle

For most of us, a new house is a dream always just beyond the horizon. And whether your ideal home is big and modern or small and cozy, it’s the getting to design it just as you want it that’s the important part. Your own perfect home. Can’t you just picture it?

But when the day comes for you to actually turn that airy dream home into a real building of concrete and wood, a lot of painful little details pop up and the subcontractors don’t show up when you thought they were going to and that color paint turns out to look terrible once it’s actually on the wall and the vanity sink came in the wrong size and suddenly you start wondering if all this stress is really worth it. Yeah, you knew building a new house wouldn’t be effortless, but after all, nothing worth having comes without a little effort, right? But it is the 21st century and surely by now someone has invented some way to turn THAT MUCH STRESS into something slightly less painful.

Yes, someone has. It’s why we exist. Whether you choose to have us take over all the stress of your project or only certain parts of it, as this gentleman did, we are here to help make getting your dream home as painless as possible.

When we arrived on the gentleman’s project, the house was only a metal frame on a concrete slab. So first we got busy installing metal on the exterior:

The homeowner chose Metal Max Brite Red metal for the exterior walls:

The metal trim was in the Burnished Slate color:

And the roof was covered in Metal Max Galvalume metal:

Next, it was time to get inside and get started on the interior framing:

We used rough-sawn yellow pine lumber for the interior framework:

The interior walls were insulated with Knauf® batt insulation:

While the exterior walls and ceiling were sealed against the elements with spray foam insulation:

We installed drywall on most of the interior walls and some ceilings:

But for several of the walls upstairs, the owner opted for a more rustic look with 1 x 6 tongue & groove yellow pine on the walls:

And to complete the rustic feel, the upstairs ceilings were covered in old barn metal:

And now it’s time for the fun part: a few shots of the finished interior, clearly a comfortable, well-love and lived-in home:

Is this the type of home you dream of? Or is your style something completely different? Whether your dream home is rustic, modern, industrial, vintage, or a style of your own invention, we would love to hear about it and help turn your castle in the air into a castle on the earth…you know, one you can actually walk into and live in.
