Nature is a beautiful thing but spending time out in it can come with its drawbacks, as anyone who has ever experienced a mosquito bite can tell you. Porches were made for sitting and relaxing, for time spent with friends and family, for being outdoors without being exposed to all the drawbacks. Unfortunately, no one has told mosquitoes or those other flying pests that porches are not part of their natural habitat.
This gentleman had a lovely porch, perfect for spending an evening on, but he wished for a little more protection…
That’s where we came in. We started by framing in a 32″ wall around the porch:
Next we wrapped the wall in 1×6 wooden tongue-and-groove siding, which the homeowner then chose to paint white himself:
And we finished up by installing black screen in the upper half of the porch wall, providing that extra protection without sacrificing the fresh air of outdoors when the homeowner wants to do some porch-sitting:
More than one person has bought a house with a lovely porch, happily imagining themselves spending many evenings on it, but then found that they seldom make any use of the porch at all for fear of mosquitoes and other insects. That doesn’t have to be you. If your porch is too often invaded by creepy creatures for you to enjoy spending time on it, why not look into turning it into your own screened sanctuary?
