Rustic Country Gazebo

You know what it’s like to enjoy the great outdoors and wish for somewhere you can relax in nature without being totally exposed to the elements? Like, this breeze is glorious and I love hearing the sounds of nature, but if I could be sitting in the shade instead of baking in the sun right now, that’d be great.

Enter the gazebo: a structure designed specifically for outdoor relaxation, and it can be as ornamental or rustic as you wish.

Step 1: Pour a concrete pad to keep your floor from turning to mud on rainy days:

Step 2: Hire Hostetler Builders so we can actually build it for you, beginning by attaching 6 x 6 treated corner posts to the concrete floor, using metal brackets and anchor bolts:

Step 3: Watch happily as we frame in your new gazebo, using Yellawood® treated lumber:

Step 5: Start getting excited as we install galvanized metal on the roof and gable ends:

Step 6: Relax, enjoy, have picnics and parties, chill in the shade on sunny days, delight in being outdoors without getting wet on rainy days – this is your kingdom, now:

Do you like this sort of rustic gazebo, or would you go for more of a decorative style? Let us know in the comments…or just go ahead and call us at (870) 845-1121 to find out what it would take for you to get exactly the kind of gazebo that you wish for.

Rustic-Modern Porch

Wooden steps work just fine if all you want is a way to get up to your door, but you know what’s better? If you wish your family spent more time out of doors, if you want a place to relax on cool evenings, if you’re longing for a space to BBQ and have your friends over, if you need somewhere your pets and toddlers can play outside without you needing to worry they’ll wander off – you know what will give you all of that? This homeowner could tell you, because they’ve got it: a beautiful, rustic-modern, gated porch.

But they didn’t always have one. They started out with these wooden steps:

This is where we came in. Step one: framing in the new porch, using Yellawood® treated lumber:

Once the porch was in place, we built the railing out of the same Yellawood® lumber. For a strong contrast, the balusters are of black aluminum:

For the roof and the gutters, we used galvanized metal, in keeping with the rustic-modern theme of the porch:

With a spring-loaded gate like this, you’d never need to worry about your dog running off and getting hit on the road…or your small child:

The porch is finished! Well-furnished and decorated by the homeowners, well-built by Hostetler Builders; doesn’t it look like a great place to spend an evening?

And, while we were there, we built a matching enclosure to protect the outdoor A/C unit and make it a more attractive sight at the same time:

Autumn is just starting to show up, bringing the kind of evenings when you want somewhere you can spend time outside. Do you have that space? If you wish you did, if you’d like to know just what it would take to get it…a call to (870) 845-1121 is all it takes to reserve your own free consultation.

Wooden Porch Steps

Repeat after me: rotten wooden steps are a safety menace. At some point they are going to break, and whoever happens to be the unlucky one who was walking on them at that moment might just find themselves a little bit broken too.

The simplest solution is to rebuild them. Here the old steps have been removed and the new ones are in progress, using Yellawood® treated lumber:

Rotten boards under the porch don’t provide much support…but they can be replaced too:

A sturdy set of new stairs, with a new landing and handrail as well:

Does it look better to you?

With new steps in place, this homeowner can host friends or just use the porch themselves without worrying that they’ll end up with a hospital bill…not to mention how much better it looks.

How are your steps? What about your porch? Still strong and sturdy, or are the boards starting to feel just a little bit spongy and rotten when you walk on them? Are you going to wait until the inevitable accident happens, or are you going to call us at (870) 845-1121 for your free estimate?

Trex Porch

Have you been outdoors lately? Spring is here, and that means the weather is all over the place. One day it’s so beautiful you want to live outside, and the next day it’s storming so badly that you don’t want to leave the house at all. It’s that time of the year when you really want a porch, a place where you can relax and breathe a little fresh air on the sunny days, and take shelter on the rainy days.

But not all houses are created equal and some don’t come with a porch. For example, this one:

Solution: have Hostetler Handyman build one for you.

We started out by framing the new porch using Yellawood® treated lumber:

For the roof framing, we used cedar wood:

We used Smartside® fascia trim and wrapped the porch posts in cedar as well:

We also installed Smartside® siding above the edge of the trailer house to keep birds out of the attic space:

We installed Tamko® 3-tab Weathered Wood shingles on the roof:

The porch floor and steps are made from Trex Transcend® Havana Gold decking:

Here we have a close-up of the freshly-washed decking. Unlike regular wood decking, Trex® composite decking can be power-washed without losing its integrity. No splinters or rotting here!

The porch is surrounded by Trex Select® white railings:

For the porch underpinning, we installed white vinyl lattice:

The finished product:

Do you have a porch? How would you like to come home to a one like this on rainy days? How would you like to welcome guests up those steps and into your home?

We’d love to talk about it with you. Give us a call at (870) 845-1121 for your free consultation.

Wooden Deck

You know those houses that look like someone set them down somewhere randomly? They don’t look like they belong there, and they don’t look particularly inviting. And chances are, they don’t have a porch.

There’s just something about a porch that makes a house feel like a home, but not all houses have one. Maybe you didn’t think you wanted a porch when you built your house, but now you’re regretting that. Maybe you bought your house and it didn’t come with a porch. Either way, if you don’t have a porch and you wish you did, you might want to consider having us add a wooden deck to your home, the way this gentleman did.

We built this deck out of YellaWood® treated lumber:

His porch came with matching wooden steps leading into his house:

Choosing a 10′ x 21′ size allows plenty of space for relaxing outside on pleasant evenings,

-and the Tamko® Weathered Wood shingle roof means he can still relax outside on rainy days without getting wet:

What do you think? Would your house feel just a little more like a home with one of these added on? Do you need somewhere to host your friends for a barbecue next summer?
